high-finance intrigue. Okay if you like the genre.

Stephen Frey finds Christian Gillette heading Manhattan-based investment firm Everest Capitol after his boss was murdered in the series debut, The Chairman.(don't miss that one either) Everest is a huge success, but disaster looms as Chris's right-hand-man, David Wright has a problem that he's trying to hide, but the mafia wants him to cooperate. What really happened when Chris's father died in a plane crash? What is the mafia trying to do with his deal in Las Vegas? To Frey's credit he is able to hold all these plots together (and more) and knit the tangled threads into coherence by the action-packed end. Great read in this second in a series.

Christian Gillette, powerful chairman of New york's most successful private equity firm, has paid his dues and has no reason to look back. Except one. A mysterious man claiming to represent "certain intersts in Washington, D.C." approaches Gillette with valuable information about the mother Gillette never knew and the truth about his father's suspicious death. In return, Gillette must play ball with a shadowy government agency guarding a new technology that could be humanitys greatest tool...or its deadliest weapon of terror. Complicating matters are Gillettes young protege, who's hiding a horrific secret, and the fiesty co-worker with an eye on more than the bottom line. But laying his personal demons to rest is the one thing Gillette wants most, and that's a reward for which he's willing to take any risk.
