For the most part, I thought Stirling had a good handle on how things would work without the technology we've been using so long, but there are little things that bothered me.

There's one particular group who makes an awful lot of cookies, but it's never explained where they're getting sugar from.

Little things with weapons and how they are used bothered me. There's one particular instance where they dull several good fighting blades just for a ceremony. With such limited resources, dulling a blade and having to resharpen it is a waste. Then there's another instance where they're only practicing and they stick their arrows in the ground (again, dulling the edge).

Sterling's portrayal of "Wicca" (his term in the book) perturbed me, since many of the things he has the clan do aren't Wicca at all. Much of it is new age. He also has a tendency to make little stabs at the few Christians that are still about.

I lost interest in many of the characters I had previously cared about in the first book.
