Nice read about an interracial couple who have to deal with a very serious life illness. Story line was warm and both characters were perfect for each other. Did feel the side story could have been left off.

Just finished Promises of Forever...and I HONESTLY don't know how I feel...it's a pretty GOOD read...Finn is DEFINITELY a charming, caring, protective, loving TAKE CHARGE kinda man...I really enjoy the care and concern he shows Kayleigh throughout...but at times I must say I find Kayleigh to be a bit annoying...I just CAN'T wrap my mind around the whole idea that her doctor tells her to take it easy...take better care of herself...cut back on her activities...yet she BLATANTLY refuses to do so...it's like HELLO...IF you want to live...IF you want to possibly beat this illness...you MUST take better care of yourself...it would be a no-brainer for me...on top of that she has this WONDERFULLY giving man who WILLINGLY wants to take care of her (illness, hang-ups, and all) and she still REFUSES to slow down...and the little murder/mystery doesn't really make sense to me (seems unnecessary)...that being said, I did ENJOY the SENSUAL romance between Kayleigh and Finn.

This a love story between a wealthy financial planner and an older college student. He is a warm, considerate man, but I didn't get a true sense of what he saw in her. You don't get a strong sense of their backgrounds as individuals. The heroine's characterization needed to be much better. She's going to college at age 35, but we're never told why she didn't go to college earlier. Her parents weren't poor. Her dad was an educated man who loved her very much. Her background before she meets the hero is completely unfilled. If she's willing to go back to college when she has a newly diagnosed serious health condition which requires mandatory bed rest, the reader should be told why it took her so long to finish her degree. What held her up before when she wasn't sick?

This story could have been so much more. It had so much potential to be a great interracial love story, but it was a disappointment. One of my biggest complaints is how choppy the story is. It really didn't flow from one scene to the next very well. It jumps all over the place. The secondary plot at her office was distracting and unnecessary. I don't blame the author so much as the editor. Whoever edited this did a really poor job. She/he needed to send this version back for revisions. The story needed strong editing. There are several obvious punctuation and spelling errors, scene continuity mistakes, as well as poor dialogue. In one section, a secondary character is described as being a billionaire who lost $3 million dollars in a poor investment scheme. In a later chapter, the same man claims he is now broke thanks to losing the $3 million. It's never explained how one can be a billionaire and lose $3 million and be broke. Things like that and other scene continuity mistakes affected my enjoyment. It also seems like everyone who meets the heroine just has to comment on how pretty she is which struck me as being very unrealistic.

This is an ok book. Not something I would buy for myself. It's not a keeper. If you're looking for a good interracial love story between a white man and a black woman, please read, Being Plumville by Savannah J. Frierson. Now that book is so beautiful and touching. Being Plumville is probably the best interracial love story I've read.
