Emmaline and Geoffrey were pledged when he left for America, promising to send for her soon. After 5 years she arrives, but feel she does not know him, nor he her. She wants to go back home. He promises her that if she stays until spring he will pay her return fare, or they can marry. Through many trials she draws closer to the Lord, and he draws away from the Lord.
I liked the way the author showed the results of their choices. I have read this book twice - it was worth re-reading.
Fantastic book! I love Kim Vogel Sawyer's books..they are very unique! In A Promise for Spring, Emmaline doesn't even like Geoffrey when she first arrives in Kansas from England. She finally makes Geoffrey a promise to stay in Kansas until spring when Geoffrey promises to let her return to England. I so loved Tildy and Ronald! Tildy teaches "Emmalion" sooo much about life on the prairie that Emmaline starts to appreciate and love her life in Kansas. Then she starts to realize her love for Geoffrey is growing as well.
I did not care for this book. For most of the book, both the hero and the heroine are very unsympathetic. She is a spoiled, selfish child and he is too demanding. The ending was inevitable, but I honestly didn't wish either character much happiness.
