This is a story based on a true event of a fireball tornado that happened in Tupelo, Miss.in 1936. It tells how it affected both a white and a black family and how they intertwined. A young white girl finds a baby in the bushes and thinks it is her brother. She denies to herself the fact that he is a black baby. She cares for him as if he is her brother. An interesting part of the story is that the white girl, Jo, and her mother put special words that they heard in a book. It shows how differently the black and the white were treated. White people went to the theater and the black people went to a railroad car. The black people who died were not counted, but the white were. The book was 367 pages. In the back of the book are pictures of the real tornado and the damage it did. The author's grandparents lived during the tornado.
