Stephanie Laurens go back to tell the story of the original Cynster that started it. Although chronologically it should come first (lineage wise) it was written later. I liked it as readers who have read other Cynster novels can see where traits came from.

One unforgettable night, Sebastian, the Duke of St. Ives, stole a kiss from a beautiful young woman at a French convent. They didn't share their names but neither of them ever forgot the magic of that innocent kiss, and when they meet again in London seven years later, each instantly recognizes the other. Helena, the Comtesse d'Lisle, is searching for a manageable husband to thwart her controlling guardian, and Sebastian, a London rake who has sworn never to wed, is clearly not an appropriately biddable candidate. The lovely French comtesse is the one woman who can change Sebastian's view of marriage, but convincing Helena is a task that challenges even the powerful Duke of St. Ives. While Sebastian is courting and seducing the reluctantly tempted Helena, her powerful guardian sets in motion a scheme that threatens the happiness of the lovers and endangers their lives.
In this tale of the passionate couple that parented the unforgettable Bar Cynster siblings, author Stephanie Laurens pulls out all the stops with high adventure, dueling swords, intrigue, and sensual romance. Rounding out the novel with witty dialogue, great secondary characters, and detailed descriptions of the London society scene of 1783, Laurens gives readers another Cynster novel they're sure to love.

Every girl dreams of the forbidden kiss. When a man literally falls at Helena's feet on a moonlit Christmas Eve, teh young countess knows he is up to no good. Clearly he is a bit dangerous but she can't deny her attraction. He may be all wrong for her but he mustn't be all bad or why else would he literally jump out of a window and land at her feet?

I do so love the Cynster Novels and have been going through all of them and when I saw this one and how it went back to the beginning and how it all started, I knew I just had to read it.
The story between Sebastian and Helena is an amazing story and I love the chemistry between them. I love how long he waited for her debut into society, how he challenged her at every turn and fought for her and their love.
However, I am about to read Scandal's Bride, and with the love that was between Sebastian and Helena, I am a bit worried about how I will feel about Sebastian after he has a child with another woman that Helena accepts as her own. I hope it will be done in such a way as to not tarnish this wonderful family that is so full of love and devotion to each other.
The one thing about the Cynster books that I love is that devotion to each other and as I said I have not read them all and have no idea what happened to Sebastian or how. So, I will look forward to finishing the "main" Cynster books and hopefully all will be explained.

This entry in the Cynster saga is actually a prequel to previous books in the series and tells of how Helena and Sebastian first met and fell in love. Here Helena, a virginal student at a convent school, is overcome when a handsome stranger surprises her with a sensual kiss. Many years later Helena meets the stranger again and is shocked to discover that he is Sebastian, the Duke of Saint Ives. Although Helena is warned to stay away from the wild Sebastian, she can't forget the passion of that long ago kiss. However, just when it seems that Helena and Sebastian might find true happiness together, Helena's guardian sets out to destroy their relationship.

This book was a very average read for me. There was nothing exceptional to grab my attention and found my mind wandering a lot. I was a bit disappointed because this author is usually raved about.
