Little publicity is given to vice presidents in our country so I was surprised at how involved Joe Biden was during the Obama adiminstration. A family man, he has given over forty years of his life to public service. The theme that I came away with from reading this autobiography was "HE CARES." Yes, he cares about all Americans and worked hard to help them any way he could. Biden even gave his personal phone number to many people who needed support during crisis. And, he returned the calls.

Two incidents were especially interesting to me. When Joe was debating whether or not to accept the vice president position under Barak Obama, he discussed his hesitancy with his mother. Her comments were like this: "Joe you have a chance to become part of history helping elect the first African American president. Come on Joe!" And, when he talked with his wife, Jill, he voiced his concern about having a boss since he had never been in that situation. She looked at him and said, "Joe, grow up!"

Biden worked hand in hand with Barak Obama as the two led our country for two terms. Their weekly luncheons allowed them to they talk about whatever issues were important to one or both. When Joe's son, Beau, developed a devastating brain cancer, Biden continued his work, returning when he could to support and help Beau. The Biden family is close knit so Beau's death was traumatic, not just for Joe but for every family member. Pressed by so many to throw his hat into the Democratic pool for presidential nomination in 2016, Joe came to the conclusion that he could not give his all to the race. He was still grieving.
