A really good read. This is a story about a prosecutor who had to enter the witness protection program with her daughter. It is a really fascinating character study of not only the woman involved, but also the people she comes in contact with in the program. Who can she trust-the marshalls in the program, or another wotness in the program who just happens to be an ex Mafia assassin! Stephen White has great style and insight into his characters.

This isn't my first Stephen White book and I was a bit disappointed. He jumps from first to third person and it's somewhat difficult to keep track of who's telling the story. I found myself re-reading the first couple of paragraphs of some sections to get back in the flow. Not a bad book, just somewhat confusing.

The best Alan Gregory book yet! Entertaining characters and a suspenseful plot; you won't want to put it down.

An excellent thriller. DA kirsten lord's husband is gunned down as retaliation against her prosecuting a killer with ties. she entered witness protection can she be safe or will she be betrayed

From the moment DA Kirsten Lord walked into his office, Alan Gregory could sense the tension in his new patient's face. And Kirsten's story was as chilling as it was heartbreaking. She'd watched as her husband was gunned down before her eyes...and knows he died because of her. Now Kirsten and her daughter are on the run from the criminal she put in prison, hidden by a Witness Protection Program that has failed to protect them once..and will surely fail again. Kirsten is telling her secrets to psychologist Alan Gregory, recounting a tale of terror, of a program she cannot trust, of strangers she must fear. For Alan, ensnared in a case that grows more menacing every day, the questions loom: How can he help a patient who lives in terror...a patient who lives a lie? But knowing Kirsten's secrets is even more dangerous than Alan can guess. To a killer, they are both targets...hiding in plain sight.

This was one of the best Stephen White books I've read. Loved the central character and the author did an outstanding job being in the mind of a woman.

It started with a convicted killer's first threat of revenge... "For every precious thing I lose, you lose two." D.A. Kirsten Lord saw her husband gunned down before her eyes. Now Kirsten is living in fear, telling her secrets to psychologist Alan Gregory... and hiding deep in the Witness Protection Program, where every stranger is a threat, every phone call is a menace. Until she realizes..the Program is the deadliest place of all. This book is one of thirteen in the Dr. Alan Gregory series. Great mystery series.

I absolutely love this book. This got me hooked on reading murder mysteries. Absolutely excellent book!
the program is a prime time thriller packed with sharp psychological twists and sinister plots.
Riveting. I thought it was difficult to read because of the violence, but really a page turner.
My husband and I both loved this book. It is a thrilling fast read and doesn't include unnecessary verbose background information that tends to clutter a great novel.
The format of this thriller is different from the others in the series, in that different chapters are told in third person or by one of the characters (think Harlan Coben). Also, although this is an Alan Gregory book, he and Lauren do not figure as prominently in it. I found these changes refreshing twists, and the plot involving the witness protection program was interesting. This book also features a fast-paced ending that will keep you turning the pages until it is over.
I enjoyed the book very much.A fast read.
Good thriller. I'll be looking for other Stephen White books that feature the secondary character, Alan Gregory.
Excellent book
Stephen White is a favorite author of mine and this book was one of his best.
