This isn't my first Stephen White book and I was a bit disappointed. He jumps from first to third person and it's somewhat difficult to keep track of who's telling the story. I found myself re-reading the first couple of paragraphs of some sections to get back in the flow. Not a bad book, just somewhat confusing.

A really good read. This is a story about a prosecutor who had to enter the witness protection program with her daughter. It is a really fascinating character study of not only the woman involved, but also the people she comes in contact with in the program. Who can she trust-the marshalls in the program, or another wotness in the program who just happens to be an ex Mafia assassin! Stephen White has great style and insight into his characters.

From the moment DA Kirsten Lord walked into his office, Alan Gregory could sense the tension in his new patient's face. And Kirsten's story was as chilling as it was heartbreaking. She'd watched as her husband was gunned down before her eyes...and knows he died because of her. Now Kirsten and her daughter are on the run from the criminal she put in prison, hidden by a Witness Protection Program that has failed to protect them once..and will surely fail again. Kirsten is telling her secrets to psychologist Alan Gregory, recounting a tale of terror, of a program she cannot trust, of strangers she must fear. For Alan, ensnared in a case that grows more menacing every day, the questions loom: How can he help a patient who lives in terror...a patient who lives a lie? But knowing Kirsten's secrets is even more dangerous than Alan can guess. To a killer, they are both targets...hiding in plain sight.

Riveting. I thought it was difficult to read because of the violence, but really a page turner.
