One of Garwood's early historical books, hard to put down, a great read.
Garwood has woven a wonderful romantic tale. She is the only writer that makes me want to call in sick and read (although I never have!) Royce and Nicholaa and a perfect match. I enjoyed reading about them falling in love and Justin's story, which was incredible.
This joins the others-- Saving Grace, The Secret and Honor's Splendour comes in as ultimate love stories. I am working my way through all Garwoods work and will be sad when there are no more to read.

This is the first book I have tried to read by this author and honestly I'm disappointed. It started out and I felt totally captivated. Strong hero, strong heroine, their both warriors! I mean, seriously appealing! I was loving it. But as the story when on I felt like it was getting boring and repetitive and annoying.
The power struggle between the H&h is understandable, but so repetitive. The strong heroine we see in the beginning, seems like a complete ditz later, is completely naive and rather accident prone. The hero gets all soft and squishy when he thinks about her (which normally I wouldn't see a problem with but this is just kinda silly) and they both are just ridiculously stubborn.
I think this story had lots of potential, but there is no way I'm going to even waste my time finishing it. Nothing really seems to be changing. I feel no connection to the character, less the further I get, and that's unusual for me, as I usually over empathize with a character.
Obviously a lot of people really like this book, but it did nothing for me after about the 4th chapter.

Good historical romance.
Julie Garwood is a wonderful author and has magic when spinning tales of historical romance. In this book the Saxon Nicholaa is forced to choose a Norman husband by order of King William. She choses Royce, a baron warrior and also the man who captured her and her castle in the first place. Nicholaa is determined not to give in to Royce despite his patience and gentlness. Royce is determined that Nicholaa should accept her fate and give in to him. Its a battle of wills even though their fate is written in the stars. Its a great story and I know you will enjoy it. And one note also, the book I am offering has a different white cover then whats shown above.
A terrific read that I compelted in just 24 hours. It was an exciting read with a shocking twist at the end!
Awwwww, I loved this book. It was a joy to read. It didn't pull at my heartstrings or leave me on hooks of tension, but I liked their caring relationship and their battles of wills. One of the better romances that I've read in a long while.

Instead, Nicholaa saves the niece of the Queen and is given the right to pick her own husband among the Norman warriors. She chooses Royce, knowing he is ever patient with her and his vassals.
This is a cute medieval romance with very likable characters. Royce and Nicholaa are perfect for each other. Nicholaa's younger brother, Justin, is also an interesting character. She should have written a book for him too. My rating: 4 Stars.

This is a good story about the Norman invaders and the Saxons. With a lilttle romance tossed in.
The lady of the keep was brought to the norman king as a prize.
