I enjoyed this book a lot. I've read several of the books later in the series and it was nice to know how it all began. On the down side, I thought the book dragged in spots with nothing happening to move the story along. I understood how frightened he was and didn't need to hear it over and over. But that said, it's well worth reading if you like this series or if you've never read anything in the series, what better place to start than in the beginning.

I have had this book on my bookshelf for about three years and have only just sat down to read it. I'm so glad that I did as it was truly an engrossing read that I almost didn't want to end. I give this book an A+! and look forward to tracking down more of Stephen White's books to read. There are now about nineteen or twenty books in the Alan Gregory Series, and I can't wait to read more from Stephen White.
