One of the nicest things about Kurland's books, including this conclusion to her Nine Kingdom's trilogy, is the lack of raunchiness and graphic descriptions of violence. There are a few battle / fight scenes but they don't overwhelm the story. These are books suitable for teenage readers. Though certainly not comparable to Harry Potter or the Golden Compass books, the story is firmly grounded in the fantasy world. The romance between the two main characters is handled nicely and their relationship is based on friendship and trust. While not classic epic fantasy, Kurland keeps the plot interesting and the story moves quickly. An enjoyable diversion.

Not the best in the series. Our strong female lead suddenly became needy and helpless. Too much repetitive swoon-like thinking. Be strong, Princess, and fight to the end. It's nice to have the guy, but he shouldn't be the end-all to the action.
