In fact, anyone found with the "animal magic" is burned at the stake to get rid of the "evil." When his mother dies, George is left all alone and seeks refuge in his own private world.
Then a marriage arrangement is made with the princess of the neighboring kingdom.
Neglected by her father, Princess Beatrice is shy and reclusive, only trusting her own pet hound. Can George ever get through the cold barrier surrounding the princess and find out what secrets she also hides?

This book was okay. I had hoped for more from the description. It was a bit hard to get into the character's shoes for me. I felt like I knew the "why" of the story for a large part and the main character didn't figure things out till much further down the road!

I enjoyed this as a different take on 'Beauty and the Beast,' though it did not make it all the way to my 'will read again and again' shelf. It was a fast and fun read, though, and I would recommend it to the YA crowd, especially those who enjoy fairy tale retellings. I am excited to read the sequel.
