This is an fascinating book. It gives a look at the daily life in the villages and the various tribes in two provinces in Iraq after the second invasion. It also contains descriptions of various interactions and incidents that happen between the population and the invaders and the aid groups. Many of the power struggles and problems are comical at times, dramatic at other times but always entertaining and educational. I highly recommend it. One of the best books I have read in many months!

This guy is British, his provinces are north of Basra. He had a certain amount of detachment from his job, there were really no villians that he felt ruined things, beyond perhaps Saddam. The reference to the Prince of the Marshes refers to a local leader who he had to work around.
