I think these are "fun mysteries". A little "whodidit" but not so serious or gory in detail. It's fun to figure out without having to squirm. And the bonus - the recipes are fun to read.

Another great mystery novel by Diane Mott Davidson. I absolutely love this series and will be sorry once I catch up! I'll surely miss Goldy and her wit!

You learn a lot about the catering trade reading Davidson's books. She gives you enough information that you think you know what is going on, but you can't figure out the why.
Caterer mystery with recipes. It's a mystery that involves the dead contractor's unwholesome past, a food saboteur, the theft of 4 historical cookbooks, and an overzealous D.A. who has suspended Goldy's detective husband, Tom, from the force. What Goldy discovers is the perfect recipe for murder. And she may be dessert!
Goldy is back and better than ever!
Colorado caterer Goldie Shultz has big time problems in this book. Someone is trying to drive her out of business. Her kitchen in the process of being remodled is in a mess and then her contractor is found dead in a friends house. Things just couldn't get worse or could they?

The author wrote a series of culinary cozy mysteries featuring Goldy Bear Schultz. This is the eighth one written in 1998. The pattern is the same for all of them. There is food, recipes and those who make and serve it. The novels are easy reads. If you like them go for it. They are relaxing and entertaining.
In this tale Goldy is trying to keep her catering business alive as a competing caterer strives to drive her out of business. And, her ex husband wants revenge from his jail cell. With a broken window she hires a contractor who takes her money, ruins her kitchen and disappears. Later he is found dead in a good friend's home. Then her cooking teacher, Andre Hibbard, who is helping her cope with the catering from the outdated kitchen, dies of a heart attack. The question she has was that really the cause of her death?
As things worsen, Goldy realizes that she herself must do her own investigation to keep her business, save her current husband, Tom, and her life. As it all spins out of control she strives to keep her son, Arch, seeing her ex husband. However, he only takes their son for visitation when it interferes with Goldy's plans. Perhaps she is too accommodating because he is rude, disrespectful and dangerous. It's a quick comforting read

I know I say it again and again, but I adore Goldy and this mystery series. I hope DMD writes them forever (or at least until Arch has gone to college, graduated, gotten married, had kids etc.)
Well, I didn't like this one as much as I have others in the series, but it was still good.

this book really caught my interest, I think it was the hidden gold. I did figure out the why but not the who.

I like the idea that Goldy had to deal with some competition in the catering field and Tom suffered job tension. These conflicts added a different texture to this book's story line.
I was introduced to this author recently. Her books have really interesting characters and the stories are intricate, but interesting and easy to follow all the twists and turns. The main character is a caterer cum detective. The books also include recipes for the dishes she talks aabout.
