A tale of a working class family in Liverpool between the wars. When the husband is sent to an TB sanitorium, his wife and two children are left to struggle along, living hand to mouth, very uncertainly. With luck and pluck, they not only survive but begin to thrive. A rose-colored-glasses view of the life and laughter of the working classes. An enjoyable, quick read.
