Well, I guess the moral of this story is if you are overwhelmed by your fast-paced stressful every day life you should be careful what you wish for and never take your "normal" life for granted. Life as you know it could change in the blink of an eye.
Always dependable, take-care-of-everything, mother and wife, Gilly, made a decision that comes back to haunt her in the days ahead as she is forced to face the consequences of that choice. While I know she was the victim (which she played for all it was worth), that first bad decision she made at the gas station in essence made Todd, her carjacker, a victim too. He never planned on having to deal with her long term.
I have to admit I felt much more empathy for Todd than I did Gilly as this story unfolded. His early childhood and life were tragic beyond belief and he just seemed like such a lost soul to me. And I was crushed by the way this story ended. When I realized what was going to happen I began to cry and even though there were only 5 or 6 pages left in the book I found myself wanting to just put it down and not finish. It's not that I don't understand why it had to be that way, I just wished for something different. But what is the answer when he had no future if she left and she didn't have one if she stayed?
This is not a light happy read. Normally with a Megan Hart book I wait a few days before beginning something else to just let it sink in and to ponder what I have just read because she has a way of really getting to me with her stories. That will not be the case this time, even though she did still get to me. I have to get this one out of my head as fast as I can. The end was that disturbing to me.
So did I love this book or hate it? I don't really know!!

Maybe one of my favorite authors around today. This book was kind of a step away from her usual books. Amazing character development. The story flowed along so well I didnt want to put it down. A must read for all moms.

I loved this book - it made me thing of what a person can really be like. How we go thru life meeting people and judge them by what they look like or how they act. Not really seeing beyond what they show the world. Love this book!
It took forever to get to the meat of the plot, and there was no real connection with the characters. Kind of all over the place. The ending was the best part.
To me this had so much promise, however I found it boring and anticlimatic. It just went on and on and the plotline to me suffered. I would not recommend it and actually would like my time invested in reading this trash returned!
The storyline was interesting don't get me wrong and at times I was expecting some morbid twist since when most assailants capture a hostage it is not usually a MR NiCE GUY who buys the hostage clothing or provides meals for a long winter storm. I was perturbed in some parts but then Megan Hart decides not to take us down that road. It is not the usual author's type of storyline Hart writes but it sure is difficult to write a story about being held hostage in a cabin for an unknown amount of time and read how they both pass the time together. Not much happens and I wish the story would get to the points a lot faster rather than have me keep reading about them playing board games toepgether or baking bread together. Unreal! The ending was kind of weak since I keep thinking why didn't she do it sooner?
