I basically read Jackie Collins now out of habit. I've been reading her since I was about 13 and just can't seem to help getting her new releases for a sweet dose of brain candy.
But I think it's time to change my diet.
THE POWER TRIP is set on a brand new yacht called, Bianca. It's loaded with a group of the shallowest people imaginable. I could barely take the storyline seriously because of the two dimensional-ness of these characters. They're all obsessed with their looks, their libidos, and their humungous egos. It got old fast. And at nearly 550 hardcover pages, the book way overstayed its welcome. So much so that I couldn't have cared less what happened to them when pirates hijacked the boat.
The problem now is, Jackie Collins hasn't really grown as a writer. Her books are still best suited for a teenaged-level of intelligence. Unfortunately, I am now 36. Sigh...
So, I think I can safely say this will be my last Jackie Collins until she wraps up the Santangelo series. I'd still be interested in that. But for now, I'll give THE POWER TRIP a generous C.
