This book was great up until the end. The end was just absolute crap and sticks with the "formula" this author keeps using. She is continually killing off the bad guys with Scarpetta at the scene of the crime and it's just getting old. I mean really, how many times are serial killers just outright killed on the street instead of taken into custody? (And by a doctor no less?!?!) She tries to get all these facts into the books regarding forensics and crime and then makes an ending that is hurried and ridiculous. If the rest of the book weren't so well-written, I'd throw my hands up and quit reading this series. If the books continue to have such unoriginal endings, I probably will, because I expect authors to try some diversity in their storytelling instead of always having the villain killed by the heroine, who, in this story, is just a medical examiner. I mean really, how many M.E.s do we here about taking out bad guys like this one does? Good grief.

Patricia Corwell's series starring Kay Scarpetta as the Chief Medical Examiner is one of the best series of books I have read. Mysteries have never been my genre, but I love the CSI TV series and this book intrigues me in the same manner. Corwell is very knowledgeable and her writing style is descriptive and flowing as well as easy to read. Its not so packed with technical jargon that you cant sit and enjoy a nice quiet read without having to reach for a dictioary.

This was a good story. It was interesting and I liked the characters. However the details about the murders were a little too much for me.

Another great book in the Scarpetta Series. Very cat and mouse with the killer and the pace is fast. A previous murderer that Scarpetta has worked forensically on --named Gault-- has targeted Kay as his ultimate kill.

The sixth suspenseful thriller starring forensic pathologist Dr. Kay Scapetta, by the award-winning author of The Body Farm. While Scarpetta searches for clues to the identity of a young woman murdered by serial killer Temple Brooks Gault, the fiend claims his next victim--and manages to infiltrate the FBI's top secret artificial intelligence system.

Christmas Eve in Central Park--Temple Brooks Gault stands over his latest victim, washing his hands in the snow. Pleased with his new kill, he lifts the heavy steel door of an emergency exit and disappears into the fetid tunnels of the New York subway system.
In Richmond, Dr. Kay Scarpetta, chief medical examiner of Virginia and consultant for the FBI, is in the midst of a late-night autopsy at the morgue when the call comes: Gault, the sadistic psychopath who has eluded capture for years, has struck again. For Scarpetta, her worst nightmare returns... And Gault kills again, but the prey he ultimately seeks is Scarpetta, for it becomes increasingly apparent that he is as focused on her and she is on him.

This book just didn't do it for me, and I was disappointed. The plot flows okay, but Cornwell's writing isn't to the standard I felt some of her other novels were. Some sections were downright unrealistic, and the ending was abrupt and ridiculous.

Hope others will enjoy it more than I did.
