The colle... more »ction of oral histories grew and the center was developed to house the oral history tapes as well as reference books, periodicals, videos, posters, lesson plans for grades K-12, subject area files, and other books and resources about the Holocaust and other Genocides. The Holocaust Resource Center became a hub for Holocaust survivors in this south New Jersey area.
A project initiated for local Holocaust survivors by the Holocaust Resource Center was the Writing as Witness Program that began in April of 2001. This Holocaust survivor portrait project was the inspiration of Gail Rosenthal, Supervisor of the Stockton s Holocaust Resource Center, who initiated the project in 2003 with the photographs taken and displayed at Yom HaShoah that year. Under the guidance of Professor Wendel White the project grew to become a semester length course for senior photography students coordinated with the Holocaust Resource Center staff. This book, Holocaust Survivors of South Jersey: Portraits of Resilience, is the culmination of the four years of this portrait and interview project.« less
