Ponder Heart
Author: Eudora Welty
Edna's Uncle Daniel Ponder is quite a character in the town of Clay, Mississippi: he dresses fit to kill and is as good as gold. But he's rich as Croesus, and a great deal too generous. Needing someone to give things to, he marries 17-year-old Bonnie Dee from a poor backwoods family. His niece Edna is horrified.

This was a funny short easy read. It seemed like it would be a good play or theater production. Interesting characters.

This book written by a southern author takes you to front porches, sweet tea, and languid afternoons. He is a character!

Humerous story by Welty. We used it for our book club. Raised much interesting discussion.

Most folks thought Uncle Daniel was a little strange; but his only trouble really was that he was over generous. He even tried to give away his own cemetery lot, once. And when he married, the second time, it was only so he'd have somebody around all the time to give things to. He hardly suspected that he'd be on trial for murder a month later.
