Helen is a compelling storyteller and this is a hair-raising tale! Among the many books about high altitude climbing or polar exploration I've read, this is one of the best two or three. Anyone who likes a story of heroic effort in extreme conditions, or who's touched by the bonds we humans sometimes forge with a very special animal, should read this book. It's very well written indeed; she has just the right touch. Masterful! I'll be keeping this copy, and probably will wear it out.
