If you are tired of novels that disappoint because of poor writing and lacking character development, then this is sure to delight. The relationships in this novel are complex and follow the life of a boy as he moves away from his small town beginnings to his adulthood. He finds his way back to that small town but not without major insights into who he is and what he has become.
I especially enjoyed the backdrop of the time frame of this novel, from the days before the stock market crash of 1929 to the early 1950's.

Very interesting but I did find that it took more than the first one hundred pages to really get into the story. I found this true on two other of John P. Marquand books that I have read. Stick with it thought because the story is worth it.
