This audio book had me lost, confused and frustrated almost the whole way through. And after a while I stopped even caring because of sheer exhaustion. Trying to follow what was happening--and the point of it all--simply exhausted me, and though I listened through to the end, ultimately I confess now I do not know most of what transpired.

According to the blurb on the box, the author in this book "looks into the mind and heart of one of the men involved in the management of the country's war machine..." Huh? I had so no sense of that whatsoever. I know there was an older man with a daughter, both befriended by a younger man, the narrator of the whole thing. Evidently the friend was trying to convince the older man to make a film of some kind. Again, this was gleaned from the blurb, not from listening, because listening meant trying to follow one bizarre and muddled digression after another. There was a huge focus on the movie "Psycho" and the numer of curtain rod rings the Janet Leigh character tore down when she collapsed during the shower scene. This was returned to again and again in the book. Huh? Again, I didn't get it.

Perhaps I was unfocused becase I listened while on my commute to work qnd maybe my mind was otherwise engaged in driving safely? I don't think so. I have had no trouble following many other audio books during the same commute. The best thing I can say about this book is that it is short. Just 3 cds.

I would be very curious to learn if this book has any true fans--readers that will return to it and listen again and again. Who recommend it eagerly to friends.

* One star. Because maybe someone can help me figure it all out?
