I loved the opening line of this book: "It is a truth universally acknowledged that a Fallen Woman of good family must, soon or late, decent to whoredom."

Unfortuantely, that wonderful opening line, which made me giggle, was not supported by the rest of the book. It was an okay read, I muddled through parts of it, but in the end I was wishing for more. Not to say that I won't read the next in the series, but it probably won't be any time soon.

If you love stories of adventure mixed with suspense and mystery, you will enjoy this book. Ms. Tolerance is an independent, charismatic, career woman, the only ironic point is that she lives in the early part of the nineteenth century. As her career is that of a hired investigator, she is used to adventure; however, the circumstances that she is drawn into bring her a new, more exciting and dangerous adventure. The mystery that she pursues is quite interesting, with an unforeseen twist at the end. So, if Regency England and mysteries appeal to you, you will enjoy this book.
