Scott Houston's concept for getting kids started in playing the piano is wonderful. He has simplified the concept of learning chords, and explains musical notation in a fun way. He believes that kids will put in "practice time" if they can start on a song they enjoy. He takes the process of learning how to play piano, and breaks it up into smaller more managable tasks. We enjoyed reading this so much that we bought his other book "Playing Piano In a Flash" (for adults).
His method works. It has been 4 months since we started doing his method. Two of my kids are playing as well as their friends who have been taking piano lessons for a year. The key is finding the songs they really enjoy.
