Sounds boring, right? That's why it took me so long to start reading it. It is a great read...absolutely fascinating! Thoroughly researched. The author is a journalist and writes with a contemporary style that keeps the pages flying. She covers basic items that we use in every day life, including a brief history of each item, and brings it into the modern age by explaining the research that was needed to solve a desire or a problem. She documents the efforts it took to form the right type of chemical combinations and molds. Her descriptions are easy to follow, the histories are short and never stuffy. Now that plastic has become a major part of society, there is research into how to use plant based vs oil based compounds, thus improving its recycling ability. Rather than condemning plastic, we need to improve it. Loved this book! D.
