A page turner! I loved this book, and had a hard time deciding whether to let it go or not. Finally decided to as it was such a great book, that I hope others will want to read it.

Very interesting, dark mystery. It is a quick read, but is comprised of twists and turns that keep the reader involved to the surprise ending. I enjoyed it very much.

Once upon a time there were 2 brothers who were very close. Cal, 5 years older than Billy, always felt protective towards his younger brother as they were growing up. Then a stranger, Dora, came into town, seemingly out of nowhere. All she carried on her was a small suitcase of clothing. Billy fell in love with Dora and she came to work for him at the newspaper. The problem was that Cal also fell in love with her later on. This leads to tragedy. Dora also has a secret past which affects both boys though they have no idea about the nature of the secrets. In the end, Dora's secrets are brought to light. Cook's book, even from the beginning, has an ominous, dark tone to it. As tragic as the ending is, it is one of the very few possible given the characters of the 3 main players (Cal, Billy, Dora). I couldn't put the book down.

Well, maybe the hype on the cover had me built up for something that just wasn't coming. Or maybe it was just a tad too boring. I wasn't impressed with the story at all, hardly any suspense, and I just hate it when I figure out the big twist. It was a no brainer once the info was given.

Wonderfully written with well drawn characters. The story blends between the past and the present. His stories always seem to haunt me the most....

Great story, plot and twist and turns to a surprise ending. Read it in two settings. A must read.

I would call this a 'haunting' love story. It isn't the best book I've ever read but something about it from the first will just keep you reading and it is hard to put down, just enough mystery about 'Dora' that keeps you wondering 'what is her secret', you might figure it out and you might not--I didn't and it made the ending a surprise.

I really like this author! This is the second book I've read of his and (though I liked Red Leaves better) the ending totally surprised me! I have just ordered another- can't wait to see if he can keep this up! Reading this book was like watching an old black and white movie! There was one part that I thought ,"That's a little far fetched" but overall, I really enjoyed reading it- A quick and absorbing story.
