A gem! Loved the descriptions of each season of country life in the Sweet Apple cabin. The story had me crying and laughing out loud at many things. I am a country girl and the way the old folks did things, Ive seen in my family and it made me miss my loved ones who have passed on. The way of life portrayed in this book is pretty much dead, and a shame that many people will never know the secrets to a good garden, potatoe peels and grapefruit rinds ect..the way to stuff holes in a cabin with materials in keeping out the winter chill, the Christmas trees that had real flaming candles on them and a bucket of water to the side in case of fire lol and a million other things that people use to do in and around their homes. If you are over 40 you will see your grandparents and great grandparents in this book, the way life used to be for every American back in the day. Also the book has tons of recipes, the kind that people made way back when.
