The Pistachio Prescription is a brilliant story about a young girl's acceptance of herself despite a quarrelling family, a typical appearance and a plethora of worries. By the end of the book she loves herself almost as much as readers do. Danziger's writing is incredible, stitched with familiar details that endear readers to Cassie and her situation. Though it is realistic fiction, Danziger successfully surprises the reader at the end. Characters are vivid, and the trend for political correctness is accurately captured. Though we are no longer stuck in a pc vernacular, this book plays out the terminology perfectly in the context of an 80's not far from memory. Modern teens will identify with Cassie despite their efforts to grasp a cultural disparity from their parents generation, as represented in this book.

This was one of my favorite books when I was a kid, and now my 8 year old daughter loves it. She reads it and re-reads it over and over again.

I enjoyed Paula Danziger's books when I was a teenager, and I'd be interested to hear what a 21st-century teenager thinks of them.
