This was the best history I have read in some time. It took a while because of the detail Zacks covered in his story. The last 25 or 30% of the book made the time worth it. The tension and excitement of the end read like a novel. This book totally changed my view of Captain Kidd and gave me a fresh perspective on early America.

Meticulously researched and well written. Zacks offers a detailed glimpse of Captain Kidd, Kidd's nemesis, the forgotten Robert Culliford, and life on the high seas over 300 years ago.

A good story of why Kidd was not a pirate but a victim of circumstances.

This is a fantastic tale that debunked all my thoughts on pirates and pirating.

Great story of what Captain Kidd was actually doing out there on the high seas.

A very interesting story, illustrating how history can get things wrong, and how a person with no voice can be buried by the system. The tale at sea was a long read, but the payoff was good. An enjoyable look at a part of history for which we only know myths and rumors.

I've really enjoyed this book--it is well-written and interesting to read, not a dry biography.

Very detailed and interesting, though it gets rather dry in some parts because of the detail. Looks at Captain Kidd, piracy on the seas in late 1600s, and those involved in Captain Kidds life. Time Magazine Best Book of 2002.

The true story of Captain Kidd. Interesting and entertaining.

This is a very interesting book. Another reminder about why you should never cut private deals with politicians. Also a fine example of how a good file clerk can save or break you neck. Really.
