This is amazing for the time.It is well written and detailed by the Doctor's granddaughter.Mollie Moore a schoolteacher marries a doctor. They are young and passionately in love. AS society expects she resigns her job and becomes her husband's nurse and helper; She is accepted into medical school. And becomes a doctor. Her husband is supportive until she is working beside him as a doctor. HE collects money from both their patients and doles it out as she asks for it. They are living with his mother who kicks Mollie's dog. That is too much. She leaves Iowa against her husbands and mothers wishes and goes to Salt Lake city, Utah where she has a woman doctor friend. She is unable to find a job because she is a woman.A man who owns a mine up in Bannock, Montana hires her as the miners doctor. Her husband finds her and although she hears him out , she refuses to go back to Iowa with him. Her adventure as a woman doctor in the Wild West has begun.

Great tale of women's rise in medicine. My own grandmother was a pediatrician at the turn of the 20th century (medical collage class of 1888) who moved her practice to California before the earthquake in SF. I've found mention of her and one other female doctor in the minutes of the CA State Medical Association.

Best book I've read in a long time regarding one of the first women doctors in Montana back in the late 1800's. She is also a suffragist and was instrumental in bringing the vote to women. Very interesting historical book.

Book was ok. Not as detailed as to the problems women faced in this profession as I thought it would be.
