This 7th book in the series takes a side step from the main story line. We learn about Richard's half-sister, Jennsen and his half-brother, Oba and their immunity to magic. Richard and Kahlan don't enter the storyline until the very end.

Not as good as the rest of the series. Most of it is not even about Richard and Kahlan.
It did a lot of base work, like starting a new series. It was alright, but I really had to wade through it.
This book in the Sword of Truth series is refreshing from the Richard and Kahlan perspective. About 90% of the book is about Jennsen and Oba. Which are ungifted, half sister and brother to Richard. This is interesting to see the other side of the spectrum and how Jennsen triumphs over the Imperial Order's beliefs to see the truth. She also learns the importance of loving oneself before being able to love others.

This one went on and on about Richards half sister and brother and how they were "holes", magic could not sense them. It was interesting, and Im not sure what I was hoping for, but I couldn't really get into this one. I look forward to reading more as I LOVE this series!
Full of rape, torture, murder, blood and guts (literally). NOT good books, but very engaging. I was unable to put them down, and have lost a lot of sleep during the two months it took me to read the entire series. I cringed, I cried, I gasped, I had nightmares. I can't imagine what kind of twisted mind thinks up this kind of stuff.
In regards to the tv series based on these books DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. THEY ARE FULL OF CRAP THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BOOKS. I had to force myself to at least give them a chance, but was so pissed off within the first few minutes of the very first episode. I don't understand why the author had to butcher the story.
Anyway, read at your own discression. Not for kids or teenagers (or even a lot of adults :)

A good science fiction. Fast reading - people relationships are sometimes hard to determine. Excellent read for science fiction fans.

Good reading. I enjoy this series.
This is a pretty good book however it is my least favorite of the Sword of Truth series. Richard and Kahlan are not even in the book until very close to the end-very upsetting. I did like the book but certainly not as much as I like others. This one can easliy be skipped but I still suggest reading it if reading the series.
good series - but long.
This was the worst book so far in the series. Totally skip-able. The premise is good, but he repeats himself constantly. The whole story could have been told in a few chapters. I understand character development but there wasn't anything new or refreshing along the way. He is becoming predictable with evil taking hostage of an innocent and Kathlan or Richard are fighting to be near each other. All is worked out in the final chapter.
The good thing is this book isn't as oppressive as some of the others.

Overall a good story within the series, although, it was a bit confusing that the main characters that we know didn't appear until the end. A necessary storyline needed for future books and a solid plot.
