Cadfael is an unlikely monk due to his worldly background, but that makes his have insight into people that the others at the abby don't have. I didn't think I could place myself in a 1100 AD setting very well, but Ellis Peters helps one really feel like they're on the scene.

As always Brother Cadfael gets his man without any modern tools or artifice.

For whatever reason, this was the first Brother Cadfael book that somewhat disappointed me. Not quite up to her standards, as Ellis Peters probably had a few off weeks.

Still, I love this series and will continue on to the next volume.

I love the Brother Cadfael mysteries. All the books in this series give a simple perspective and glimpse into medieval life. I always learn new things. This one is about a man on a pilgrimage to Wales, with another pilgrim keeping company with him on the trip.

Printed and bound in GB, this version has smaller type than the american version, creating a more compact story dense book. However if you have poor eye sight you'll want to avoid this version. I enjoyed very much more story per page, less page turning, and flipping Idea for a flight where you'd like to slip a book in your pocket. Attractive cover, with Middle English simulated fonts classier than the mysterious press version. Another Great Mystery by Ellis Peters, if that's your real name (sic). If you don't know, its another mystery you should check into.
