Lupita is a policewoman who has many issues. An alcoholic, she killed her son while intoxicated. After serving her sentence she swears off alcohol. She is a talented policewoman. While she investigating a murder, she finds herself hunted by someone who wants her dead, too. It takes awhile for her to understand but a friend realizes the danger and takes her to a treatment facility. Those seeking her death discover her whereabouts but she escapes and is rescued by a man she believes is the murderer. As she gets to know him she realizes that the simple life led by him and his followers is rewarding. Did he murder the man and if so, why? This is an interesting read delving into the Mexican culture and lives of those within the group led by this shaman and outside.
