Ms. McCafferty is a very witty writer. This mystery is set in a small town in Kentucky, with assorted colorful locals and a "Howdy Doody" type detective.
I read only 3 pages.
It reads like an old time detective show.
When he gave one reason for not dating Melba, "Poor Melba is lugging around about one hundred extra pounds- quite a few which she sit on"
Then the next paragraph he is watching some "10" head to his office and he says "and watching her finish going up those last few steps made me real sorry I hadn't been there for the entire climb."
That is when I said forget this. I always give a book a 100 pages, this book is lucky it got 3.
