I keep coming back to Lee Child's books. They start fast (The first line in this book is "The cop climbed out of his car exactly four minutes before he got shot.") They have plenty of dropped clues. They feature a larger than life main character. And they tie up nicely in climaxes with plenty of twists. At times a little formulaic, often somewhat farfetched, yet each book draws me in.

Jack Reacher is like a sociopathic Spenser for Hire. He has no friends, and no relationships. What he does have is a genius level ability to work with numbers, and strategy. He is also so strong his pectoral muscles are a built-in bullet-proof vest, and he can kill a man with his elbow. In this episode, Reacher seeks revenge on a man long-thought dead. He teams up with the DEA to infiltrate a crime syndicate in order to get close to its leader, the resurrected Quinn. His laser-like focus on his goal, to kill Quinn gives him the ability to withstand cold, and invicibility in hand-to-hand combat. The pacing in the 2nd half of the book is off, and at one point it becomes a bit tedious. But it picks up at the end, when everyone bad gets it.

Reacher. Can't say enough about the character. Keeps me turning pages so fast I forget to take a break. In this one, He goes undercover for the DEA to help them out with a little 'off the books' mission. That clock in his head - I sure could use!! Can't wait to read the next one. Even if you don't read them in order, you will have a great read.

Jack Reacher, in the 7th novel, returns in this explosive tale of an undercover operation set up by the FBI to rescue an agent investigating Zachary Beck, a reclusive tycoon believed to be a kingpin in the drug trade. The novel begins with a bang as Reacher rescues Beck's son from a staged kidnapping in order to get close to his father--and trace the connection between Beck and Quinn, a former army intelligence officer who tried to sell blueprints of a secret weapon to Iraq but was murdered before he could pull it off. Or so Reacher thinks, until he spots Quinn in the crowd at a concert in Boston.

I have been reading all the Jack Reacher books in order, and this one is my favorite one yet. Within the first two chapters, I was pulled in. I think Child's writing style is excellent in this book. His use of first person is what did it for me. It's like I was watching this tale unfold from inside Reacher's head. It was just more enjoyable to read instead of the usual Reacher said this, Reacher did that, format that I was used to. I hope Child continues with the first person account. Looking forward to starting book 8 and will continue to read whatever Lee Child writes.

Jack Reacher is an ex-military cop and the ultimate loner. No family, no possessions, no commitments, no fear. Nothing--except a strong sense of justice. Which is why Reacher agrees to help a female agent caught in a death trap. Why Reacher must outwit and outfight a criminal army. Because once Reacher finds trouble, he cannot quit. Not ever.

A Jack Reacher book never disappoints. This was hard to put down. I thoroughly enjoy how Child weaves Jack's past into his present. This very concept of Reacher sparks your imagination. Don't miss this one.

Jack Reacher, an elite ex-military cop who left the service 10 years
ago, hates unfinished business. Ten years ago a key investigation went sour & someone got away with murder. A chance encounter brings it all back. Now Reacher sees his last shot. Vengeance, redemption, or
what Reacher would call it...Justice. Good plot, suspense, a real page turner.

Lee Child's character, Jack Reacher could be the model for Jack Bauer of 24. He's a former military cop and a marksman. He usually works outside the law. This book is full of action and suspense.
You won't want it to end.

I took a break from the Reacher books to give myself some distance from Child's writing style. Took a break and and glad to be back. I'm always looking forward to finding out something new about Reacher in between the story line.

Again, I like how the story starts - right in the middle of the action and we're left to figure out how they got there.

You'll enjoy this one!!!
Happy Reading =)

Another great entry in the Reacher series. This is the 7th Reacher book - I've been reading them in order and they are all super. In this one, Reacher meets up with an old nemesis (Quinn) who had killed one of Reacher's subordinates when he was still a military MP. Reacher thought he had put Quinn away 10 years ago but it was not the case - Reacher had some "unfinished business" with Quinn that needed to be taken care of. And of course, Reacher doe not leave business unfinished. Another high recommendation for this one.

Let me start out by saying that I really enjoy Lee Child's writing, and totally have a crush on Jack Reacher. I've enjoyed all of his books to date. I was excited to get into this book and see what Jack's next adventure was. But by the 3rd chapter, I realized this was one I was just not going to enjoy. There was something.....off... about this book. I can't really put my finger on it, but it's almost as if a really really big fan of Child's took it upon themselves to write a book about Jack Reacher but never quite got to the author's level.
The storyline was great, but the characters had no depth to them, and even Reacher's character seemed two-dimensional. The background of the story and why Reacher agrees to help the DEA with an investigation is so drawn out it's like pulling teeth, and you get nothing until the 2nd half of the book.
Reacher thought too much, overreacted or didn't react at all, and just mainly annoyed me, which has never happened. He fell flat all around and it's like the author lost that part of him that taps into Reacher.

I'm hoping it's just a fluke, because I've read all of Child's books but the newest one and everyone is entitled to a stinker now and then. And this one was it for me.
