The author, an American writer and cultural anthropologist, is the daughter of Margaret Mead and Gregory Bateson. Her genetic and intellectual legacy come clear in this book, in which Bateson shares her experiences during a lifetime of learning from experience and encountering the unfamiliar. She skilfully weaves a tapestry that informs the reader about contemporary issues by offering perspectives from ecology, human relations and politics. A thoroughly enjoyable read!
