This is the second book in the Elementals trilogy by Thomas. This is an excellent adventure/fantasy, with a wonderful world, lots of action and intrigue, and very engaging characters. The 3rd book is as yet untitled but is planned for a September 2015 release.

The book is set up in a very unique way. The reader follows two different timelines at once. One storyline starts as both Fairfax (aka Iolanthe) and Prince Titus arrive back at school in London where they continue to train for fighting the Bane in secret. The other storyline starts with two characters who have lost their memories and are stranded in the Sahara desert.

The two storylines alternate and are eventually related to each other, I thought it was cleverly done. You can kind of tell that the Sahara desert storyline is happening after the events that happen at the boys school. It was very engaging because I was incredibly curious as to how things got to the point they were in the Sahara desert. It was very well done.

We see a lot more magic in this story, both Iolanthe and Titus do incredible things with their elemental magic. There is a lot of action, a lot of political history/background revealed, and a lot of breathtaking twists and turns.

Both Titus and Iolanthe are excellent characters that I really enjoy a lot. Like in the first book, they have times where they dont see eye to eye on things. However, they are always able to work together to get to their final goal.

I liked the contrast between the two storylines. The storylines that takes place in the Sahara is all action packed elemental fighting and daring escapes. The storyline that takes place in the boys school is all political intrigue and the deciphering of prophecies. It was fun to switch between the two and worked really well for making the book engaging and fun.

There are a lot of twists and turns as well and I really enjoyed some of the secrets we learned about the Memory Keeper and about Wintervale and his family.

Overall I really really enjoyed this young adult fantasy full of magic and adventure. The book is very well written and I thoroughly enjoyed both the characters and the world the story takes place in. I cant wait to see what happens in the third and final book. I definitely recommend this series to those who love fantasy with interesting magic systems.
