A nice, light mystery by Beck begins with a wonderful cruise to Hawaii for a vacation. But even before the passengers leave the boat, a mysterious woman appears. Eventually two unrelated deaths spoil the vacation and appear to hamper the marriage plans for a young woman from the Islands. A prominent family's convoluted family tree makes the crimes even more interesting.

But Iris and Jack, the latter being a passenger on one of the first airplane flights to Hawaii from the West Coast, eventually solve the crimes with the help of an old diary.
