London 1885.
I loved this book. It didn't have the air of mystery or the ongoing drama, but I still really liked it.
The hero and heroine start out disliking each other, but find themselves drawn to one another (one of my favorite set-ups).
Their dialogue back and forth made me smile.
They each have an secondary character pulling for them and helping them along the way.
The misunderstandings are cleared up quickly and do not drag on throughout the book. (I can't stand it when the main problem of the book can be solved by a simple conversation.)
And best of all, there were so many lines / passages in the book that just made me happy.
If you aren't looking for a real intense story full of mystery and historical facts, this is a really good book to read. It only takes a few hours and leaves you feeling good.

This book was one of the most subtly funny, laugh out loud stories I have read in a long time. The hero and heroine are polar opposites. He is the 'prim and proper' one and she is just realizing her passions and strengths after the death of her husband. Their reactions to each other is where the humor lies. I have been a fan of Victoria Alexander for years, but, in my view, this was one of the least boring and most entertaining of her books. One could hardly wait for the next confrontation between the H/H.

Disclaimer- I am a historical romance virgin. I've read only a few and thus, I have only a few to compare this book to. End of silly disclaimer.

I liked this book. I didn't love it and frankly, I became bored with all the witty banter back and forth between the two main characters- Julia and Harrison. It was cute for the first 3 or 4 chapters, but after that I wanted them to shut up and get their clothes off already. In addition, the plot was lost in all the silly banter back and forth and was easy to figure out once Julia is given a particular item. How obvious can it be that this item would solve all Julia's problems?

Furthermore, there is the addition of not only the great-grandmother ghost but also random male ghosts along the way in the book. They seemed so out of place and I love paranormal elements.

Nevertheless, (I am sounding excessively formal in this review), I still smiled often when reading the book and I did finish it. Because of that, I am giving it 2.5 stars out of 5.

Disappointing. No mystery or drama. The dialogue between the characters was funny at times but it didn't make up for the dragging story line. I LOVE Victoria Alexander normally but this one just didn't do it for me.
