Another story in the de Warenne series this time it is about Rex de Warenne. He is a war hero, who lost a leg and a recluse. Lady Blanche had a childhood trauma that left her incapable of emotion. Her father has died and she needs to marry someone she can trust and who is capable of managing her estate. Flash backs to the childhood trauma threaten Blanche's mental health and their love affair.

Wonderful story. Hard to put down.
The deWarrens are one of my favorite families to visit and re-visit. I really liked Blanche & Rex's story.
I am a huge fan of Brenda Joyce and love everything she writes but she has outdone herself this time. This story will suck you in and you will not be able to put it down. Two tortured souls who have had attractions from afar are thrown together. As they experience the feelings of new love, they are reminded of old wounds. The two main characters struggle to make a life together while dealing with their own personal issues. You will go on their emotional rollercoaster with them.
You also get to updates on all of the other de Warenne's from previous books while falling in love with another de Warenne man. Enjoy!

This Joyce is a bit psychological just to be a fun romp, but nonetheless is very good. And if you like your characters really fleshed out and in depth you will love this one.
The problem with Brenda Joyce is she makes the characters so at odds with each other that hate each other for the majority of the book, then with a few chapter left they realize they love each other, and I just don't buy it. Reading this book I kept getting tired of the constant fights with no sight in end and it got so tiring that I seriously considered not finishing the book. Not every book of hers is this bad about character conflict, this one is extreme.
A gentle and emotional love story that was a little slow to come to fruition, but a joy to read.

PTSD with a regency romance twist. Interesting take on the disease without being all about it.
