This is a sweet Jane Austen-ish period romance with a little bit of fantasy mixed in. An average English girl is suddenly confronted with a proposal from a debonaire Slavic prince. She agrees, and enters a very sensual world of romance, prophecy, and mythological creatures. It is a fun and light read, an a little different from an average historical romance.

This is the first in the series and I read it second. It was enjoyable but I liked the book that follows it (Alexander's story) even more.

It was okay. My problem with this story was Penelope. She was kind of weak, especially when it comes to Damien. Whenever she wanted to confront him about an issue, all he had to do was smile at her or kiss her and then all was forgotten. Once or twice would have been okay but it happened all the time. She was very dull and boring.
There were some paranormal elements I didn't expect but enjoyed them.
Things I did enjoy was what happened with Alexander and how Damien's charcter. He really was a good ruler and used all of his resources. Interesting character. There were also some nice bedroom scenes.
Overall, easy read but not as good as Ashley's other books.

Mages and Magic, Logosh Demon, Prophecy or not that is the question?
A Father mired everthing in HATE, a Grand Duke of the Council continues it.
A son in exile who learns to be a Prince Charming [to everyone, especially women]
A back water miss looking for LOVE.
Just that something a little bit different. Good read. . .

Did not expect the magical scifi stuff at all. Perhaps I missed it when reading the back cover? Dont remember. But I really do not care for that. As the series goes on, there is more and more of it. By the end, I had had my fill of it.
Aside from that, it was a terrific story. Great series. I loved the far away aspect of it. And the sincere true loves. Really good story. Terrific series.
Loved the characters. Very well told. And the romance, physical writing was great.

Having read the Highland Pleasures series first (the brothers Mackenzie), this book came as a terrible let down. While this book is filled with sensual moments, the characters were not compelling, the situation was silly, and they were too instantly in love to be much of a romance. I feel like romance novels should be about falling in love, not instant love in the first two pages followed by 350 pages of planning weddings, planning ceremonies, planning rituals, blah blah boring blah. I nearly put it down but I LOVED Jennifer Ashley's other books so much, I couldn't believe how bad this one was. She usually writes extremely dynamic interesting characters whom you love so much, the rest of the plot is irrelevant. Wow was this book a surprise (not in a good way).
There were a lot of naughty bits, a bit more envelope-pushing than anything in the more recent books, so I suppose that is something.
If you love Jennifer Ashley, I just say beware - this book pretty much sucks.

One could almost say 'charming' but that would be unforgivable... Very light.

A fun read. Love at first sight; attempted murders; erotic sex; A very entertaining read.
You expect this book to be the 'prince charming' type of story, and it kinda is, but once you get past that it's really interesting and passionate. The whole 3 book series is great, and I especially love how they build on each other.

Loved the story. Great characters even though a little unlikely but a good read.
The Playboy Prince: His blue eyes beguiled. His muscular form could have satisfied any fantasy. He had a delicious foreign accent-and to top it off he was royalty! What woman would dare refuse the most sought after lover in Europe? Miss Twice-a-Jilt Penelope Trask, that's who. And, unfortunately for Damien, marrying Penelope was the only way to inherit his kingdom.
