This is my first book by Coonts and I have to say it was hard to put down after I made it past the first 1/3 of the book. I am a big fan of Nelson Demille and I have to say that when Payback finally got heated up I really enjoyed Coonts thriller as much or close to as much as I do Demille's books. I look forward to reading the rest of the Deep Black books as soon as I can. If you like this genre of novels then this one is a must read.
Another of Coonts' adventures involving an undercover NSA team, this time pursuing a missing nuclear weapon during a threatened Peruvian coup. Brief chapters move the action along, following characters from earlier "Deep Black" stories. Stand alone as a good action read even if you haven't seen previous books.
a violent political coup.
The word is out to ex-Marine sniper Charlie Dean and his team of the National Security Agency: Infiltrate the highest stratum of Peruvian political power and derail a renegade general from acing and election. All Dean has to do is find a way inside and inpenetrable bank vault protected by armed guards around the clock-it's all in a day's work for the men and women of Deep Black.
Not the greatest book he's written. I expect more from him.
Deep ops in Peru -- a madman General and a nuclear threat. This thriller about has it all.
Charlie Dean is back and Stephen Coonts and Jim DeFelice spin another sinister terrorist plot that will keep you turning the page.
I usually like Coonts enough to finish his books. In the smallest print on the front cover, (announcing "STEPHEN COONTS'" in inch high gold letters), I finally noticed: "Written by Stephen Coonts and Jim DeFelice". Ah well, if you can't trust publishers and Big Media, who can you trust? The book bogged down in too much "Gee Whiz" stuff for me. If you like that, then this is a good one for you.
I enjoyed all of this series of books.
GREAT BOOK!
Ok story. Plots seem a bit wild.
