Really absorbing! Most biographies that are this thorough have their moments of leaving you feeling stifled b detail, and there is that here, but still ... a fascinating examine of why and how Kael was never able to review a film in a vacuum, but always as a social historian. And the author seems to match Kael in both prose and insight of his own into his human subjects, individual films, and changes in Hollywood.
