Professor Fischer makes the story of Paul Revere come alive in this excellent work. The myth of Paul Revere as some solitary hero galloping through the night is dispelled. In its place we have any equally compelling story of a determined man who championed a cause he believed in and thus helped shape the formation of a nation. Fischer's book not only chronicles Paul Revere's ride but also the battle of Lexington and Concord. This part of the narrative was what I enjoyed the most. Fischer makes history tangible as he relays what happened during the battle. We don't get pat retellings of troop movements or what this general did. What we do get are the stories of individuals on both sides of the conflict. The ample illustrations and maps give the reader knowledge of what was going on at the time. If you want history that reads like a story and keeps you informed while still moving along at a good pace this is a book for you.
