Very well written and great points about leadership in the US and the world
This book is essentially a commentary on the current political mood, the negativity in American culture, and the lack of resolve and fortitude in responding to the serious and threatening issues of the day. Noonan sounds the alarm that we are in danger from terrorist threats that are real and inevitable and our leadership is occupied with political maneuvering, winning, and posturing, instead of leading. In particular, she concludes that we are likely to experience a nuclear, biological, or electrical grid attack and we are not prepared to address these, nor is anyone in government or the media thinking about leading us into preparing to respond to such an event.
She takes considerable time to tie this type of courageous and studied response to our heritage, our history, our sense of being Americans and what it means to be a "beacon" for others. This is a good snapshot of where we are, and what needs to change.
