Perhaps the most over-the-top example of the Chronicle Books style is a small, square volume called Patio Daddy-O: '50s Recipes with '90s twist, written by Gideon Bosker, Karen Brooks, and Leland and Crystal Payton. The book pokes fun at the myth of an idyllic suburban America of the 1950s, and the recipes sound suitably scary. "Slab-O-Fun Barbecues Meat Loaf.""Uncle Bob's Peanut Butter Sandwiches with Texas Sweets.""Dragonbreath Corn on the Cob." The fun begins, no doubt, with an "Atomic Cocktail."

You may wonder what you'd get if you actually followed many of these recipes, but despite all their silliness, they are very clearly presented. All the ingredients are grouped together on one convenient list and the procedures are broken into short, easy-to-skim numbered steps.

The title says it all - wonderfully illustrated with photos of 50's kitchenware.

A fun retro cookbook with recipes & pictures that will absolutely take you back to the 50's. These are real recipes just as they were "back in the day" and updated for todays version. Preparing recipes from this book took me back to the days when my mom& dad often entertained on the patio. It was such fun and the foods was just as tasty then as when I prepared them now from this book of 50's recipes. I have 2 copies so i'm sharing one. This book would be nice to add to a collection. Now I just gotta grab my bobby socks and put some 45's on the hi-fi and i'll be ready to start cooking again Daddy-O.
