Interesting woman who traveled and took chances in the Middle East, way before other women. I enjoyed this book because it gave both sides of her personality, good and bad, and yet wasn't judgemental.

Freya Stark is a prime example of someone that set her mind on doing something and then figured out a way to get it done. Despite her early disfiguring accident, and troubling family life, she never let it get her down.

Anyone interested in strong women and traveling will enjoy this well written biography.

Lived from 1893-1993. Apparently a precurser to all those who said "take this job and shove it", leaving her family business in her 30s to head to the Middle East. No one warned her about losing her medical benefits, I'll bet.
