This book dragged on way too long. Normally, I love lengthy romances... it gives time for things like character development and plot. This book, on the other hand, could not end soon enough. The writing style was fine and the actual plot was decent, but the middle of the book was just unnecessary filler. I was waiting for the actual plot to kick in. The other Jordan book I read was phenomenal and this one was just a huge let down.

This romance is indeed steamy. That is something I love in Jordan's books. I love her regency touches in the Hellfire League series. This is the third of these I have read.

I felt this book started off great. To me, the story stalled when they got to London. I found the hero, Nicholas, to be charming and fun, very enjoyable. I found the heroine Aurora, once she gets back to London, to be frustrating. It was difficult for me to connect with her reasons for keeping Nicholas at arm's length. Esp when she was like an entirely different character in the beginning.

That said there is still lots to like about this story. I wanted to read more about Harry and Raven and Aurora's would be first-husband.

Those looking for history in their Regency may have to settle for sex in Jordan's followup to The Seduction. When her bookish and noble fianc and lifelong friend, Geoffrey, Earl of March, is lost at sea, Lady Aurora Demming, daughter of the powerful duke of Eversley, believes she has lost her only chance to be free of her abusive fatherDa fear intensified by his having arranged a marriage for her with a controlling man twice her age. An opportunity for freedom arises when Nicholas Sabine, an American about to be hanged for murder and piracy, asks her to marry him for just one dayDand one tempestuous night. His money will give her independence, while her title will enable her to guarantee that Nicholas's raven-haired half-sisterDa love child born out of wedlockDwill be accepted by British high society. Aurora's new life as a London widow and the guardian of her new ward is shattered when Nicholas appears at a masquerade ball, explaining how he escaped death and desiring to claim her publicly as his wife. Although she is desperately attracted to him, Aurora fears marriage to a man so passionateDabout danger, life and loveDwill trap her as completely as did life with her father. Just as Nicholas seems to be persuading her of their mutual love and rightness for each other, the long-lost fianc turns up, obviously not drowned at all. Jordan aptly maintains the tension between Aurora and Nicholas, while moving the plot smartly along with lively dialogue and interesting secondary characters.

Love this book, it is alittle different from the normal historical romance. i like how she has set up her own house and is living a full life on her own, she is not simpering in a corner becuase she did what she knew would piss her father off. he is able to sweep her off her feet eventually but she really does make him work for it. none of this her chasing after him crap that seems to be the recent trend.
